Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki OAV 3

November 15th, 2007

Tenchi Muyo is back after a 9 year hiatus with an all new box set. It’s been 2 months since the action seen in OVA 2 and peace has finally returned to the Masaki household. Unfortunately the calm is all but shattered with the arrival of a few new faces, one even claims to be Tenchi’s mother! It’s not all fun and games though. The powerful goddess Lady Tokemi has sent villain Z on a mission to scout Tenchi and to learn more about his powers, but Z seems to have his own plans. Could there also be a marriage on the cards? Will Tenchi finally learn about his mother’s tragic past? All will be revealed in Tenchi Muyo OVA 3!

For any fan of Tenchi this third box set was always going to be a big thing. From the beginning of production right until release most fans were worried about how the final product would shape up. Would it live up to the expectations laid down by its predecessors? Or it would it float like a lead balloon? Read the rest of this entry »

It’s not all doom and gloom.

November 6th, 2007

Just a quick little post today, being caught up in the real world with adult things to do is just oh so fun!

Now over the past few months things have been a little bit volatile in the Anime industry as a whole, I’m talking about Japan, Europe, USA, pretty much everywhere. People have been crapping out metaphoric bricks – Judging by some reactions on some of the forums leads me to believe people are actually shitting bricks – over whether or not their favourite shows and films will be available to buy or not in the near future.

Well unfortunately for anyone wanting some of Geneons old title’s you are now out of luck, time up, game over. Anything with the name Geneon or the giant G is now a part of Anime history.

Some people have this painted as the start of Armageddon. Better start buying up your DVD’s now folks because it’s all down hill from here. Well actually no, it isn’t really. Some people that with death comes life, and generally this applies to pretty much everything we do with our lives. Anime is no different Read the rest of this entry »

Backlogs are Bastards

October 25th, 2007

Over the past few months, Read: since February, I’ve spent quite a few chunks of money and bandwidth either buying DVD’s or the fansubbed series (Don’t even think about starting a fansub discussion, I will give you a one way ticket to the river Styx.) This has all accumulated into quite an impressive collection, but leading to quite a damning situation.

Now for anyone in the real world, for example anyone who works full time and doesn’t live in their parent’s basement. The day is short enough as it is. Throw in friends, family, tending to adult matters and anything else the amount of time left to watch any Anime is surprising short, let alone write about it.

This results in one mammoth of a backlog that would take me around about 25 days of 24 hour marathon watching. Now who can do that? I have DVD’s still in shrink wrap, files that Read the rest of this entry »

Angelic Layer 1-6

October 23rd, 2007

It was just a few minutes since Misaki left Tokyo train station before she was swept up into the world of Angelic Layer. Staring at the live fights on a huge outdoor screen Misaki quizzed the two kindergartners next to her, only to find that she really was out of her depth. With the help of her mysterious new friend Mr. Icchan, who looks like he’d be more at home as a university lecturer rather than a boffin behind Angelic, Misaki takes one more step into her new life with her aunt in Tokyo.

I started watching this show with no preconceptions at all. I didn’t know what it was about, what genre it was, how good it would be. All I knew was that it was 26 episodes long and had a cool name. After finishing episode 6 I’m happy enough Read the rest of this entry »

Steamboy

October 14th, 2007

Ray was your usual aspiring inventor, always tinkering around with machines, looking at how they worked. After all it was in his blood, the third generation of the Steam family. One day a package arrived from America. It was sent by his Grandfather Lloyd. In it contained a mysterious ball, blueprints and a note. Not long after the package arrives some strangers from the O’Hara foundation appear at the Steam residence. Trouble is not far behind.

Based in 19th century Britain, Steamboy is one of the most epic Anime films to date. The story takes place around Ray Steam and his challenge to stop greedy scientists and war mongers. Their intentions are to turn inventions created to help mankind against each other. The setting is The World Exhibition in London, a prestigious event showcasing Read the rest of this entry »
